March 2015
High stress, demanding yet sporadically satisfying/rewarding.
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT):
Pros: I love working with animals and contributing to a better quality of life for them since they cannot help themselves. I love teaching owners about their pets and helping them to have a more enriching life with them. I love to work with xrays and other types of imaging. There is definitely a sense of comaraderie within the field as well.
Cons: Healthy euthanasias, some controversial procedures (ear cropping/declawing), neglect and abuse cases, non-compliant owners, rude people, deadlines/stress, low pay for amount of knowledge/work.
