Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN) Reviews

What is it like working as a Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN)?

March 2015
What nursing is about...
Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN):
Pros: Assisting clients one on one. Individual client care. Asking guidance from other registered nurses.
Cons: No availability of stock. Lack of positive, enthusiastic care of clients.
March 2015
Primary care in a CHC.
Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN):
Pros: The long term relationship you build with clients is what draws me to primary care--the trust you build is what gives you a platform to collaborate on health goals and really journey with clients for the long haul.
Cons: Hegemony is still very real; there are many opportunities for change in practice and advocacy for nurses to be practicing to full scope as the highly trained professionals that we are--rather than glorified clerks.
October 2014
Computers take away from patient care.
Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN):
Pros: My patients.
Cons: Computers, Goverment interfering, short staff, Government mandates things so hosp can keep going and not get fines and get money back if we are in compliance but we are short staffed the computers take more time and more to do all the time. The higher ups delegate more and more for nurses to do. Med rec is hard to do also can have a 15min er but takes 2 hrs to do the computer re putting in all the meds on someone. Our computers are not compatible with the clinic so meds are put in but we have to ask again, its just ridiculus.
September 2014
First line in Pt care from pt's home.
Primary Care Registered Nurse (RN):
Pros: Caring for people, and teaching them to live healthy to avoid hospitalization and exacerbation of their medical conditions.
Cons: Buying gas out of pocket, no medical/health or other incentives, and driving around.
