Kaiser Permanente Reviews

What is it like working at Kaiser Permanente?

Innovation, Autonomy, and Hard Work.
Administrative Coordinator in Seattle:
Pros: I believe in our mission. Healthcare should be accessible and cost effective.
Cons: We are new to WA and it is still a challenge to change culture and move forward. Do not always feel like I have the knowledge and assets to do my job effectively.
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Seattle:
While the pay is better than many places in the seattle area, as an LPN of over a decade my pay has forced me to get a second job to be able to afford life. The cost of living in the area far exceeds the pay. Not to mention the raises. While we have just renegotiated the Union Contracts the fact that LPNs are listed as services staff and NOT NURSES means we do not get the same recognition nor pay. I work 4 10 hours at KP and two 8 hr days at an assisted living. I have 1 day off a week. Because I cannot afford to just work one job. I cannot afford to go back to school as I need to work full time. While the insurance benefits are good it almost doesn't outweigh the fact that the pay is not based on experience plus union. No bonus' are given, no money spent on things like an actual breakroom for staff. I am here because I like the people I work with and am good at my job. But it is not satisfying and only adds to stress and exhaustion.
Psychotherapist in Rochester:
Cons: No assigned permanente office, assigned to a different office every day, no way to access therapy materials as you can’t wheel them all around every day. When you work 10 hr shifts, 4 day’s per week they do not schedule you the same start or end time everyday, when your schedule the extra day off it is not a 3 day in a row, it’s a random day :m, ex: you could be assigned to work M,T,W, off Thur, work Fri. You might work 7am-3:30 mom, 9:00 am to 7:30 pm tues, 8:00-6:30 weds, 7:00-5:30 fri. If your reg scheduled day off is on a holiday you are only paid for 8 hours, they force you to use 2 hours vacation for each 10 hr day that falls on a holiday, if not you are shorted 8 hours pay in your check. There are no 15 minute breaks in a 10 hr day, only a choice of a 30 min or a 60 minute lunch. You get 1 hr a week for charting on 30 to 40 patients. You are scheduled 9 to 10 patients in a 10 hr day in Psychiatry.
Good work, a lot of bureaucracy.
