Love the people, don't love the pay.
Volunteer Coordinator:
Pros: Getting to work very closely with the volunteers every day, even sometimes just over email or the phone, is very satisfying. The department is made up of people who are great to work with, which makes for a generally pleasant work environment.
Cons: Despite being the coordinator for a group of about three hundred people (without whom the organization would cease to function on a day-to-day basis), this position is not treated as management level in any respect. In fact, it remains one of the lowest ranking full-time positions in the organization. Compensation is obscenely below market, and the meager number of vacation days (10, which are also supposed to make up for all of the holidays that employees of other businesses receive) does little to alleviate the frustration that brings.
