What is it like working as a Lecturer / Speaker?

Lecturer / Speaker:
They keep you on as a Casual employee so you never know from year to year if you will get any hours of work offered. The professors leave it until just a few weeks before semester starts to engage with you. One year I thought I was going to continue as Subject Coordinator only to discover a week before semester started that the Professor gave that job to a PhD student who was their pet.
