Front End Developer / Engineer Reviews
What is it like working as a Front End Developer / Engineer?
March 2016
Fast paced, fun, interesting, evolving, challenging.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Pros: Learning all the different tools and how new, better ones are always showing up, easy going, friendly environment, great location.
Cons: The sadness that comes with having to scrap a certain idea or design after working on it, age difference, lack of company team building exercises.
November 2015
Programming.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Pros: I am very passionate about computer programming and I always ready to do new challanges.
Cons: Not now.
November 2015
Too much for too little, no room for growth.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Pros: I like that I get exposed to many different areas of web development, marketing, graphic design, SEO, email marketing, branding etc.
Cons: Under-compensated given profession averages, absolutely no room for growth or promotion, my expertise and skills were spread very thinly across what seemed like 100 different areas which kept me from excelling in any one area. All this going on while the management fights and bickers over my shoulder every day. Management is also poor at constructive criticism, quoting large projects, and involving employee in the job. Corporate culture (if there is any) is only applicable to those aged 35+.
November 2015
Love my current job but I think I'm underpaid.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Pros: Lots of interesting projects and use of amazing technology.
Cons: The fact that I think that my salary is below the market value for javascript web developrs.
June 2015
Learning and Solving Problems.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Pros: I get to solve problems creatively with code. I work with WordPress and PHP, but I also have the flexibility to play with Photoshop and InDesign. I really love learning new things, and that happens every day.
Cons: Sometimes being specialized means that you have no one to ask for help. It can also mean that projects can pile up if no one else knows how to fix what you work on.
May 2015
Always see where the ball is going, not where it has been.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Learn constantly. Experiment often. And don't worry about failing when doing those two things. Remember that it's more important to ship a project than it is to follow all of the best practices. People generally value results more than process.
Although if you find yourself in too many situations where results are weighted more than process, find a new job quickly. That company is a sinking ship.
April 2015
Better than anything else I've done.
Front End Developer / Engineer:
Pros: I like the flexibility in my day to work on different projects at different times. I also like being able to work while travelling abroad and getting paid at the same time. I like technology so this field, in this industry is a generally good fit for me.
Cons: My boss can change his mind about what he wants on a total whim. We work long hours when projects demand it and it leads to a pretty quick burnout for me. I would prefer to work on a single product and see it grow and expand into something really cool rather than churn out marketing sites for company, after company.
