Environmental Scientist Reviews
What is it like working as an Environmental Scientist?
April 2017
Environmental Scientist in Boston:
Pros: Diversity in workload, clientele, and location.
Cons: Traffic, traffic, traffic, and traffic.
September 2016
Environmental Scientist 1.
Environmental Scientist:
Pros: The people are really nice.
The time off is okay - first 1st to 5th year is 23 days (7 holidays already included). Not sure if you can choose to work on days the offices are closed.
When people get situated, they can work from home or a different office since there are quite a few in a few hour radius where I am.
You do get a laptop where this is a VPN, so work from home is possible. But I don't see that happening anytime soon because I am around to "help" everyone else.
Cons: They do not have any work for me to do most of the time, so I sit at my desk for 8 hours a day.
I'm not sure how okay it is to take overtime. It seems like a bad thing to do. A lot of people end up filling their timesheets with only 40 hours regardless of how many they did work.
The HR person who found me and hired me mentioned how people would be snagged from the company because they would pay them more with better benefits. She made it sound extremely deplorable that you would want better for yourself. (She said this on day two)
The training is not planned out at all beforehand and neither is most of login material to set up access to other portals.
September 2016
Environmental Scientist:
Be proactive. Notice what you don't know, and learn it. Notice what you could do better, and then make a plan to get better and do it. Notice what is important to the people around you, and help them get what they need.
May 2016
May 2016 Review.
Environmental Scientist:
Pros: Interesting work and opportunity to be part of high profile projects. The people are generally competent and easy to work with. Global company so opportunities to work globally.
Cons: Pay is low and vacations are low. No real perks to working hard or overtime. Minimal praise for hardwork, but plenty of chastising for small mistakes.
February 2016
Environmental Scientist:
Pros: Lots of learning experiences and tons of hands on opportunities.
Cons: Stressful most of the time; budget limitations.
December 2015
Large and high profile projects.
Environmental Scientist:
Pros: Working on large and high profile projects. The ability to work with people who are very good at their jobs.
Cons: Unrealistic deadlines and a lack of recognition for hard work.
November 2015
Environmental Scientist:
Don't just tow the corporate line. Figure out what you love to do and pursue it.
