What is it like working as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)?

January 2016
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA):

Cons: There is a constan lack of staff and hard working responsible staff. With a high turnover rate with new staff lasting about a month. Possibly due a lack of adiquate pay and support from management.

How often the Agency would require too much overtime.
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA):
Young persons who have never worked hard in their life are in for a surprise and really need to think hard about the choice they're going to make. Sure sometimes you will have clients where all that is required of you is to sit at bedside and maybe read a book to someone for 2 hours, but that is very rare. Most of the time you will have an 8 hour shift where you have to get a client out of bed who has soiled themselves who is angry you are bothering them. The client has a Doctor appt., you need to drive them to and you have to undress, shower, dress, cook and feed your client. When you return you have lunch to take care of and along list of chores you can barely get done. When you get off work you just want to go home shower and go to bed. Then you wake up think you have the day off and your employer is short handed because someone has called in sick and they desperately need you. If you can't see the bigger picture of why and who you are doing this for then this job is not for.
January 2016
Chaos and constant circles.
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA):
Pros: I learned a lot from the boss I had before. She taught me a lot of things that helped me be a awsome care giver a be confident in my care. There are activities to keep residents active mentally and physically. I make the residents day when I come to work and care for them.
Cons: The new director doesn't really care. Nor does the nurse. Patients get sick a die for neglect on managements part. Aides are not taken seriously. Lack of aides for proper care. Food from main kitchen is terrible. Residents complain daily and yell at us the aides. No REAL security for safety of staff as well as residents. Lack of proper equipment like blood pressure cuffs, SpO2 monitors, scales for weight, etc to do a proper job of vitals. Mold in toilets and refrigerators. No proper housekeeping. Caregivers aren't appreciated by management.

It's not a career.
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA):
Pros: You get to meet the most interesting residents. They always have stories to tell and when they love you, they will request your name more often.
Cons: One aide to 10-12 residents. You put all of them to bed, toilet all of them 2-6 times per shift, you dress them, bathe them, change their poopy briefs, feed them. You get very little help from staff. BAD PAY.
December 2015
Stressing.
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA):
Pros: Working with the residents and coworkers.
Cons: No teamwork Miss communicate with low pay.
December 2015
It's nothing like class.
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA):
Don't go in thinking you have to do it all by the book. Reality is you can't. You will never get your work done that way.
