Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Reviews
What is it like working at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU)?
Getting better.
Physician Assistant (PA) in Oregon City:
Pros: They try to make improvements as a system, I have a great team.
Cons: The admin/managers push the people actually doing all of the work harder and harder in order to make a profit, to the point of burnout and they don't seem to understand/care about turnover. Which makes it even harder on the rest of us.
A place to be proud of!
Physician Assistant (PA) in Portland:
Pros: Diverse and supportive environment! We have a great hospital a d excellent university.
Cons: There are multiple levels of management/leadership so it is difficult to get anything done!
Increased knowledge base, decreased personal growth.
Medical Laboratory Scientist in Portland:
Pros: Working at a level 1 trauma center taught me more in less time. I have learned so much in all the generalist fields, with the addition of transfusion services and have seen complex cases I would not have otherwise had access to.
Cons: Like any large company there is little room for personal growth, opportunity, or interest in you as an employee.
Improving and growing.
Physician Assistant (PA) in Portland:
Pros: The ability to be involved in research, clinical medicine, education and other activities, continually learn and grow. The inclusive environment is improving.
Cons: There are still significant struggles in the leadership teams, but transparency and equity are actively being changed and improved.
I love my job and everything it involves as being a registered nurse!
Registered Nurse (RN), Emergency Room in Portland:
Pros: I am able to do what I love on a daily basis and be a big part of our nation when we need our strongest to stand up.
Cons: Nothing! I’m able to help people one person at a time. That’s my purpose.
Treated as more of an Assistant than anywhere else I have worked.
Physician Assistant (PA) in Oregon City:
Pros: I used to love my job, I have a great team and my patients love me, I like the hours and benefits... when/if I ever get to use them. The hospital tries to be proactive and progressive.
Cons: Multilevel management that is expensive and ineffective, undermines peoples confidence and well-being. Salary less than national average when cost of living considerably higher. Inadequate staffing that doesn't allow people to take vacation or sick time. Treated poorly by management, leadership does not respond or care about issues/concerns. Have to pay to park at work, or spend 2 more hours on public transit. Extremely difficult to get promoted. Lack of transparency, archaic old white male privilege. Lack of communication or cohesion.
Physician Assistant (PA) in Portland:
Great company overall, supportive work environment where you feel appreciated. Pay could be improved compared to others/cost of living but benefits make up for the lack of salary. Plenty of room for advancement and continued education.
