February 2022
Nottingham/Derbyshire remote developer.
Sr. Software Engineer / Developer / Programmer in Nottingham:
Pros: The Notts/Derby counties are broad and largely Rural. There is an expectation that many employees will be commuting. The Pandemic has, at least, opened peoples eyes to the fact that remote working is viable and not a time waste/resource waste. I believe it is a national British attitude that remote working is somehow less performant than being in the building, but that is changing a lot.
Cons: There are still a lot of people (Managers) that need convincing to the idea that remote working is viable and just as productive. These people should understand properly that working from home is not considered as a means to skive, by the majority of professionals whose work can be achieved remotely, programming, testing, IT work. Commuting is stressful, time consuming, non-ecological and frustrating. Consider a previous job, I had a 2 hour commute, each side of the day. so 4 hours of not being paid, to get to a job that I could have done over a wire. I am tired and frustrated by the time I got to work. I don't have my creature comforts and feel under Damocles that I have the same experience to get home. It costs a lot of fuel, car parking costs, dry cleaning etc. At home, I can rock out of bed, attend toilet and shower and go to my specially partitioned part of my house, so I am not mixing work and being at home of a weekend, and be proactive and ready within 15 minutes. This encourages me to work twice as hard, to maintain the option of working at home.
December 2021
Not much enthusiastic people.

Cons: Not so much to learn in my field
