Corporate culture/low pay.
Medical Records / Health Information Technician:
Pros: I like the flexibility and my director who is easy to work for. I enjoy patients coming in wanting records and helping them.
Cons: The pay is low and there is no room for advancement. I was given a new title from clerk to specialist and they did not raise my pay.

Tough job.
Medical Records / Health Information Technician:
Be prepared to have a job that can be monotones, but challenging. You must have had some medical terminology courses and should be a good typist and speller of medical terms. Be aware that the pay is not that good and you are the lowest of the low in the medical office and you will be expected to run for others all day and be treated like you are dumb, even Pugh you are not.

It's All In The Details.
Medical Records / Health Information Technician:
Must be detail oriented, multi-tasker. I know it sounds cliche. Bottom line "if it isn't documented, it didn't happen". Must be always willing to learn new P&P, HIPPA law and compliance with Standards and Practices. Degree? While a degree looks good on paper, if you don't keep up with current practices, you're degree is worth nothing. I have always been a BIG believer in, having been one myself, of the OJT (on the job) employee. Learn daily, take constructive criticism, vow always to improve oneself. If this is a job for you, remember it's all about the details!
