June 2019
Walking the Talk.
Training & Development Manager in Toronto:
Pros: I am asked to solve interpersonal issues, team-build, solve communication problems, find common ground, and foster a great place to work. I am a long-standing employee and have a deep knowledge of the people and culture, and business processes. I am recognized and trusted. The work I do aligns very much with my personal work. And, the organization is unique in product/service it provides.
Cons: There is still sexism here. As a "legacy" employee, I do not enjoy the higher salary ranges offered to new employees as an incentive to join. I currently report to a person who is junior to me on every level, and feel professionally insulted. Yet, even though I provided a positive solution and it was well-received, I have been left in this untenable situation for months. I also don't like that this is a "vice" industry (gambling) - my ethics are compromised here. Finally, there is a lot of talk about living the corporate Values, but there's a select group that get to opt out without accountability.
