Get Out Of Support.
Support Technician, Information Technology (IT):
Don't stay in support for any longer than you have to. Think of it as being the technology janitor ... Great for getting your foot in the door, but that's about it. The longer you keep doing 1st line support, the greater chance that you will be 'pidgeon-holed' or 'typecast' in that role, until that's the only role your superiors can ever see you in.
Get in, do a great job, talk to people, make your voice heard. If you're not in another role at the 3 - 5 year mark, it's time to go someplace else and start over. Any other strategy is going to keep you at the bottom of the corporate totem pole (and pay scale) indefinitely.

Pros: I love working with people, and everyone uses technology. I get the chance to lift roadblocks for people and connect with them. It's awesome to be a part of it.
Cons: Simply, working in churches is probably not going to provide sustainably for my family.
