What is it like working as a Staff Scientist?

April 2023
The responsibility and PE for a Staff Scientist is extremely different between Divisions.
Staff Scientist in San Antonio:
Pros: The freedom to work in a widely diverse range of technical areas.
Cons: Division level management is generally incompetent and will present others ideas as their own (which results in plagiarism, illegal client-billing practices, and distorted performance/reward evaluation system).
January 2023
Great institutions with a lot of possibilities.
Staff Scientist in St. Louis:
Pros: Plenty of collaboration possible, good environment
Cons: Job instability, salary, human ressources
September 2022
Under paid and appreciated.
Staff Scientist in Albany:
Pros: My lab mates
Cons: The state bureaucracy, non competitive wages and salaries, poor communication from admin to employees
June 2022
Interesting work... If you can afford it.
Staff Scientist in Burlington:
Pros: Projects are always challenging and there is something new to learn every day.
Cons: No clear way of advancing one's career, and few real development opportunities.
February 2022
Staff Scientist in Seattle:
Opportunities for professional growth for self-motivated individuals. Company culture is poor. Top performers tend to be pushed out or leave out of frustration. Competitive pay and good benefits, don’t count on the stock options to pan out.
December 2021
Great position, and room for growth.
Staff Scientist in Orlando:
Pros: Providing safe drinking water to the citizens of Orange County
Cons: Sometimes my co-workers can get a little complacent
December 2020
I love my work, my employer not so much.
Staff Scientist in Tucson:
Pros: Being able to continue working
Cons: Lack of a meaningful, two-way relationship with central administration
