Senior Project Manager, IT Reviews
What is it like working as a Senior Project Manager, IT?
February 2014
Need To Know The Extent Of Your Authority During The Project.
Senior Project Manager, IT:
The PM needs to have the authority to affect change on the project schedule, scope or budget. This authority typically comes from the Steering or Board level. Be certain that you have access and direct status updating to the executive level or the Program Manager/Director could possibly not take your recommendations and when things go wrong, they will blame you. This just happened to me and it was a bitter lesson to learn.
To excel at a PM role you must know the subject matter of the project clearly and fully. You must know the methodology inside and out and have demonstrated successfully. You must make sure that methodology is followed by EVERYONE including executives. If you need a sign off to close a phase do not move forward until this is done.

Corporate Culture.
Senior Project Manager, IT:
Pros: Enough time to work and go to school to gain further knowledge in the industry I work in. The new model may change over the next few years and may actually become an unsatisfactory place to work as the company is stressing change in some of the wrong ways by reducing educational developments.
Cons: The educational benefits are always first to be cut. Bell has no way to ensure the people that would benefit the company in acquiring additional knowledge in their area of expertise are first to attain it. So many people abuse the funding and when others that need it require it the funding is unavailable. This is short sighted for the employees as well as the employer to not have better control on the way educational development is spent.
