Always be open to volunteering for stretch assignments. Volunteer to solve a problem. Research. Ask questions. Reach out and talk to peers. Be open to learning. Share your knowledge. Teach others how to find an answer. Mentor others. Spend a bit of time getting to know others in your organization as you will gain new perspectives on your business processes and priorities. Don't go too long working on a problem before asking for assistance.
January 2014
Great Learning Experience.
Senior Database Administrator (DBA):
Pros: Analysing the issues and providing a fixed solution. Sometimes I feel good that I am being appreciated for my work. The current job role has lots of opportunity and respect as well. Many things to learn, an end to end communication, convincing skills are required. Moreover my current role helps me understand the business as a whole. I communicate with top management, which very few co-workers get to do. I enjoy and I am very much passionate about my job.
Cons: Most of the times a DBA is a hidden hero, he will perform his job and it is not noticed by the top management. Also in many organizations DBA'S are paid similar to other job roles, which I feel is not fair, because the DBA, apart from being a knowledgeable resource also works in a very flexible hours .
