Senior Accountant Reviews

What is it like working as a Senior Accountant?

February 2016
Senior Accountant:
Negotiate your salary, accounting is necessary for a business and even though it is overhead it should not be overlooked as an important function of any company.
January 2016
Overworked, long hours, short fuse manager.
Senior Accountant:
Pros: Casual dress environment and complimentary snacks.
Cons: There are two types of individuals pervasive in the organization. Those that "play dumb" and manage to stay employed and those that cover for them.
December 2015
Perks.
Senior Accountant:
Pros: Working atmosphere is good.
November 2015
Very challenging.
Senior Accountant:
Pros: Reporting and analysis, data gathering, excel skills, reconciliations.
Cons: No recognition. One of the systems is old and not much improved. Currently, there is only 3 of us in Finance which was previously 5. The 2 are new as asst controller and Finance Director (both less than 6 months)
October 2015
Know your worth.
Senior Accountant:
Know what you are worth to your org and remember to highlight your value to the organization. In accounting adding value is harder to see because direct impact is harder. But you are very influential to your organization and your value is seen in the bottom line, it shoud be reciprocated to your value to the company.
October 2015
Quality of Manager.
Senior Accountant:
Continue to learn new skills.
September 2015
Be very careful picking a major. You can start at 21,31or 50.
Senior Accountant:
School is expensive, very! You should pick a career you like and you see many openings for.You can always do hobbies on the side. If you like numbers, making sure everything is neat, perfect, and matches, Accounting may be for you. In today's world, being good with computers and data manipulation is a plus, (treat computer classes at highest priority, especially excel and access) your elder colleagues won't understand but they'll event embrace it and it'll make things more efficient. Do your homework on salaries and companies you like, except nothing less. It's almost impossible to change paths after that, plus if you think you'll prove yourself, you're wrong. The under pay is so small, to match what others get would never satisfy budgets. Go for a big corporation, or public firm. Get CPA, Masters budget children. Long accounting hours and studying with home life, children/spouse is so very hard, almost impossible.
