What is it like working as a Safety Director?
December 2015
Job expansion.
Safety Director:
This job is always changing, company needs are always changing. Responsibilities grow with the confidence level of the owners.

July 2015
How important my job would be in the future.
Safety Director:
Be willing to be a problem solver and establish and enforce policy, practice and procedure.
April 2015
Can be high stress and not enough pay.
Safety Director:
Most of us work for pay to support self and family etc.
Liking your job is important, but not as important as not being paid a living wage, especially when certain jobs (sites) demand unpaid extra time and increased stress.
Many General contractors, including their safety personnel can be willing to ignore hazardous conditions for workers (your companys) to maintain completion schedules etc.
When early contract completion bonus payments are at stake for large general contractors, stress is more subtle, but can be just as combat.
Having been in many stressful situations of responsibility while serving in the military, I have gained some understanding of "stress". It takes a toll and is cumulative if not relieved.
Supporting your family to the degree commensurate with the amount of responsibility placed on your shoulders, should be compensated fairly.
In the military you know your pay scale, you know the risks, your training prepares you for compromising your integrity. Not so in priva.
April 2015
EPA rules and regulations.
Safety Director:
I wish I knew more about the EPA rules and regulations in regards to voc's and emission control.
April 2015
Consider yourself as self employeed and serve your customers.
Safety Director:
Establish a good relationship with all of your general managers. Find out how you can help them and do them a service, don't add to their issues, be an asset that they can rely on.
June 2014
Good.
Safety Director:
Pros: Learning.
Cons: So many rules change.
