New to Tampa.
Quality Engineer, Medical Devices in Tampa:
Pros: Warm weather and close to the beaches easy to plan a vacation.
Cons: TRAFFIC.

Life as a young QE.
Quality Engineer, Medical Devices:
Pros: Plenty of responsibility and technical challenge. I get to lead cross-functional teams and facilitate many types of meetings from root cause analysis, action-planning, and risk-based decision making. My manager mostly lets me operate independently. I work in sustaining engineering, new product development, process improvement initiatives, and quality investigations, so I don't usually feel like I am doing the same thing over and over again.
Cons: It can be a thankless job. Since you are usually working on multiple unrelated projects with multiple managers that do not talk to eachother, it can be hard to not become over-resourced. Additionally, when a product quality issue arises you have to drop everything and address it. This issue would probably be lessened if your manager actually understands the work involved in what you do. The job also requires a high level of attention to detail as a major component is technical documentation review and critiquing it through an auditor's lens. While this can be interesting, the quality of your work is usually hidden except to the document owner who's name goes on the finished piece. Management of course does not usually see this review and will be confused as to why it takes so long and is such a burden on your resources. Lastly, the main focus of the job is reviewing, delegating and coordinating other people's work. It can be hard to feel like you produced something of your own.

Quality Engineer, Medical Devices:
Learn about the important metrics or measures of quality or profit/success to your company starting with your supervisor as soon as you start your job.
Don't allow this to be delayed. Work to achieve these goals as quickly and correctly as possibly. If you have suggestions of ways to do things better, suggestion them but pick the right time and place. It's not good to embarrass the boss.
