My Press Operating Experience.
Press Operator:
Pros: I run a die cast press machine everyday which makes thermal decals. What I like most about my job is the process that goes into making a decal. Upon the first "press" the decal comes out looking like crap. My job is to get the metal die set up and then apply different elements such as more/less heat, pressure, tape, etc.. to make the press surface even so that I get a nice smooth cut decal. This is a learned technique. I get a sense of accomplishment with each job that I make. As long as deadlines are met, the work hours are flexible. My position is not micro-managed; I general work on my own.
Cons: At times it can be stressful because of deadlines. This job requires standing on your feet in one spot for 8+ hours a day.

Life in Printing.
Press Operator:
Pros: I really do enjoy my job running a 5col sm with coater, Heidelberg . Even after 17yrs in the industry, I still find it challenging. I get immense pride & pleasure from producing high quality work. Finally the industry is changing all the time & it's great to be part of new development & changing methods, it keeps this job interesting.
Cons: Print is a very tough industry. Back 10-15yrs ago, everyone was busy. But with the dawn of Internet advertising, etc.. it become extremely competitive & hard to make money like before. Sometimes the work can be a little monotonous, but more often than not, challenging.
