President and CEO Reviews

What is it like working as a President and CEO?

Be Careful Of What You Wish For.
President and CEO:
When I was young and dreaming of creating my own empire, fortune and doing it my way, I never dreamed that having ultimate freedom could be so vastly confusing. It was so simple to meander the path of employment. I could wander from one job to the next as I would quickly tired of one job and moved on to another, sometimes working as many as 2 or 3 jobs at one time just to keep things interesting. I found most jobs to be far too single faceted to keep my interest. Taking on the head of a company single-handedly was by far the biggest underestimation of my life. My thoughts were now it will be easier, no more politics and chaos in the workplace. Just clear focus on the jobs at hand and delivering the highest quality product and customer service possible. Overnight I found I was suddenly no longer doing one job I knew really well but now doing a dozen jobs I had no idea what I was doing. My first advice is this: Find a great A/A stat otherwise you will never have time for the details.

Time Consuming.
President and CEO:
Pros: Working for a start up is challenging, but allows for intensive learning on a broad spectrum of topics necessary for success in the business world. Being president means you have control of the strategic direction of the company and who else you work with, which is extremely appealing.
Cons: Being a small start up means that there is much less delegation of tasks and much of the menial work falls into myself. Often times this work is not intellectually stimulating and I would prefer to be focusing on other aspects of the business.
