Operations Manager, Retail in Vancouver:
Pros: It was the bustle of Vancouver's atmosphere that I fell fast in love with. I have been privileged to have worked in communities of Greater Vancouver which included Richmond, Burnaby, Kitsilano, Coquitlam. In the GVRD, cities surrounding Greater Vancouver, I was also able to have the opportunity to work in Surrey and in Langley. Each of these communities has the commonality of being a smaller part of a greater whole, that which is Canada's second largest city, Vancouver . Yet, in each of these townships a unique culture is shared by its inhabitants. The unique character of these locales always kept my work fresh, exciting. Each day was spent in a learning environment whether one was a manager or a customer service associate. My employees and customers taught me many wonderful key points on how to keep your staff inspired and along with treating customers with respect and by name. It was empirically enlightening for me, for my growth in becoming a better Manager and a better me.
Cons: Of course the traffic can be hectic at times throughout the working week. I would have to say that was the hardest aspect about working directly in the city, along with the expenditure of the ever- rising price of petrol.

DO what the boss wants accomplished, Not what he says!
Operations Manager, Retail:
Keep as much of your opinions to yourself, and encourage your employees to do the same. When one complains about another. Take them to the other employee and have them repeat what they told you. They will stop this behavior if confronted with their own actions. The less they know about you the harder it is for them to attack you. Hard work and attention to details gave you this opportunity. In all jobs, I took the time to make changes that made my job easier, I always learned from the senior employee that produced the most with the least amount of effort. I tried so hard to teach my employees to think, to be learn the skills necessary to perform at a higher level. The first year went very well, but I was injured and having to step back and depend on my crew. Well, there was one who we called "Snag" when asked to do something, "It wasn't fair" When trying to expand the stores services he objected to my boss the loudest. He was the "Snag" that cost me credibility & my job.
