Nursing Manager:
The home health industry is in a crisis and if your wanting to earn a decent pay for being an experienced nurse of 15 years or more you need to go elsewhere. The hours are long, the work is now EMR centered and takes to much time away from patient centered care unless you want to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. The perks are few depending on the size of the company you work for. The larger the company the more you lose out on comradery and peership with other professionals.

Buy a hat box, grow down feathers, and take notes!
Nursing Manager:
As a Nurse Manager you will be required to wear many hats throughout the day. You will be dealing with patients, staff, and families. Nursing is a sacrificial position. You probably chose nursing because you are answering a call to serve and take care of people. Wonderful! If you are impatient, have an aversion to bad smells, and expect a "thank you" every day, chose another profession. It is rewarding in the sense that you are making a difference in a person's life. You will teach, mentor, advocate, and delegate. Hone your PR skills because you will also, many times, be involved in family situations that you wished didn't come your way. But it will! Listen, listen, listen. Think outside the box and sharpen your assessment and planning skills. Most of all , lead by example! Get down in the trenches. Don't just talk about a plan but do, show, co-create with staff and build teamwork and morale. This will be your best ally!
