May 2016
More Than Meets The Eye.
Clinic Office Manager:
Pros: This job is extremely satisfying and rewarding. It is a fast paced work environment that requires critical thinking. The culture at the clinic level is one of friendship and tight knit, professional relationships, and all members work together very well as a team to accomplish daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals. Regional managers who work directly with clinic level managers offer excellent guidance, mentoring, and education to clinic level managers. Most employees at clinic level are eventually cross trained in all support roles, other than lead position.
Cons: This job is very high stress approximately 85% of the time. Protocols and procedures seem to change rapidly with poor timeliness in the communication of these changes from senior management to clinic level management. Work load is very high for each individual, and there are obligations for staff (at least 1x quarterly for entry level, but 2-3x monthly for clinic level management) that either take place outside of typical work hours or require at least 45 minutes of travel (one-way). Senior management (oversees regional managers, who oversee clinic level managers) seems out of touch with the daily ins and outs of clinic activity unless it can be presented in quantitative terms formatted on spreadsheets. Clinics operate with a "bare bones" staff - if a support role is absent from work, whether planned or due to illness, clinic is understaffed, unless the schedule for that particular day is lighter than typical. Overall, company has grown rather quickly and policies seem to change daily.
