Know your role and constantly expand upon it.
Chief Engineer:
You may or may not have enough experience to be a journeyman in any trade. This is fine since you are no longer a trades person. Your new task is to understand the role expected of you by those you work for and with. You need to exceed those expectations. In no particular order, master the following:
Budgets and invoices. Being on top of financials places you in the drivers seat when trying to get things accomplished. A lot of people ignore this.
Time management and multitasking. Except for the amazing few, you will not be able to give 100% to anything unless you focus on one thing at a time.
Delegate, delegate, delegate. And make sure it is to your highest standards.
Take a communication seminar. Learning how to effectively communicate will make life a millions times easier for you.
December 2014
Works engineer.

Cons: Pressure and limitations on resource. Undervalued.
October 2014
Hind sight is 20/20.
Chief Engineer:
Keep it positive, hire the best, plan well, and deligate wisely.
March 2014
Aerospace Engineering.
Chief Engineer:
Take as many relevant training courses as possible. Do not let them tell you that you are too valuable on the job to allow you time away for training. Working to keep the company moving strong causes you to fall behind. Before long you will need to try to find the training on your own outside of work so you are not left behind.
