Great benefits, typical corporation.
Barista:
Pros: Fast paced, makes the day go by really quickly. The benefits are stellar. The hours are pretty flexible. You can transfer to any store if you have to move. It's nice to get free coffee all day, pound of coffee or tea a week, and free food item during lunch.
Usually the people hired are outgoing and fun so coworkers are typically easy to get along with.
Cons: The stress. A lot of hypocrisy. They want fast times but great customer interactions. I wish I had a chance to actually make relationships with the customers but I have to hurry and keep my times to ten seconds per person. It's not about the quality, but the quantity.
We have standards for things like coupons or whatever but we hardly stick to them. We're told to stick to it, but then a customer comes in and yells enough and we give them a bunch of free stuff. It's exhausting because people take advantage of that a lot and they just come in and yell and get free stuff because of it.
There's a lot of talk within the company, a lot of times they think what they are doing is really great but it's not what the employees need. We don't need free spotify, we need more pay.
There's other things but those are the most important ones.

Pride, Passion, personality.
Barista:
Read coffee books, use online video sites to learn tips and tricks. Practice steaming milk with cold water and soap. Know every component on the machines you use by their names. Always know why and have a reason for the way you do things such as "cleaning steam arms to prevent cross contamination". Before going to an interview check out the store before hand and learn visually the type of machine/ equipment they use. If a customer isn't happy with a drink you have made apologise and offer to make a fresh one. More importantly make each customer an individual, get to know them and make them feel valued.
