For over a decade, I was employed by two national chain business, and two dealerships. I find that they all have one thing in common, 50-60 hour work weeks & flag hours are half to equal the amount of hours put on the clock. Not every technician in one shop can have 100 flag hours or more. The best thing about working for a dealership is (about 90% of the time) you only work with one make, e.g. Ford, Nissan. The big down side at the dealership is warranty work, you get half the time of labor Mitchel or All Data pays. When I think about the work I did for Firestone and later NTB, I realized I had way more responsibilities, e.g. Painting, plumbing, landscapeing and even cleaning up the restrooms. At a dealership, well at least for me, I do not have to do any of that sort of work, they have contractors for all that other work. Overall I belive the longer you stay in one place the better, jumping from place to place will get you no where in this buisness.
