Associate Research Scientist Reviews
What is it like working as an Associate Research Scientist?
December 2018
Associate Research Scientist:
The culture is lacking. They pay not too bad but the management is not worth it. Benefits are standard, as is compensation. They won’t give you more than they have to. Coworkers are great for the most part, except the ones that bring everybody down.

Pretty good.
Associate Research Scientist:
Pros: Good pay for a starter job, benifits are good too. If you do well you and build trust, you can work independantly.
Cons: Micromanaging people is a common this here. But they trust you if you are good. Sometimes the work load can be high and difffcult.

August 2014

I'd Rather Have A 'Post-Doc' Title.
Associate Research Scientist:
Pros: Academic environment is nice and informal. Opportunities to interact with many smart and interesting people.
Cons: It's a dead-end, failed-to-become-a-PI job and most everyone knows that. In addition to (or instead of) doing science, many aspects of running a lab, such as mentoring students, approving purchases, organizing stocks, etc. Fall under this hat. These are not terrible duties, but given the low pay and lack of respect that goes with this job title, it gets old with time. Post-docs, although lower ranking, are viewed as bright individuals with potential and are worthy of career-advancing opportunities (like attending meetings and courses.) I've been tempted to call myself as a post-doc.
