What is it like working as an Assistant Store Manager?

Overall its a challenging job. I made a quick transition from Teller I to ASM but now I seem to be stuck. The company could do a better job of mentoring/training existing ASMs for SM role, since they say they promote from within.

Pros: Assisting customers, working with the few competent associates we have! Everyday something happens that I've never experienced before so those are teachable moments for me.
Cons: No communication. No organization. No training. Having to work long, hard hours bc 85% of the Sales Associates either call in or just don't show up.

Cons: Lack of communication between me and my supervisor. Unreliable employees. Theft from my store.

They put way to much work on you . In addition they really don’t explain how to do anything really obtaining to your job besides cashing the cash registers out and making out deposits.
