Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education Reviews
What is it like working as an Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education?
August 2021
Making a difference in education is both expensive and exhausting!
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Mobile:
Pros: The opportunity to help underprivileged students.
Cons: It is somewhat depressing that without my retirement I would not be able to teach at this institution.
July 2021
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Harrisburg:
Good mission supporting deserving students. Most colleagues are terrific and make it a fun place to work. More could be done to recognize those employees who go the extra mile. Compensation could be more equitable.
April 2021
I enjoy meeting and teaching upperclassmen. The learning, laughs, jokes, and insight on what their opinions are makes my job easier. I'm proud of where I am with my education. It hasn't been easy, but it's something.
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Athens:
Pros: The students and especially ones with babies.
Cons: Bars around campus. Who drinks on a Monday?
January 2021
We are very underpaid and undervalued.
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Jupiter:
Pros: It is very internally rewarding to help students grow into their profession
Cons: We are one the most underpaid college and undercompensated colleges in the nation according to national studies.
January 2021
Update your performance review processes.
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Hamilton:
Pros: Learners, research
Cons: Compensation is not commensurate with performance
November 2020
Big, young school with growing pains and drama.
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Orlando:
Pros: This is a beautiful place to work, with a dynamic community, access to beaches, and reasonable cost of living. The weather is amazing.
Cons: The university is having trouble growing out of being a small teaching school, and into the R1 superpower it could be. Interaction with industry, especially, is poor, and even basic contracts are beyond the skill of the underpaid office of research. Unsurprisingly, administration is hostile and feudal, with resources scarce and contested. It is indeed all about who you know, with very little in terms of opportunity outside of playing that game.
September 2020
Its aight.
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Boston:
Pros: Professional Development, and Perks with the name
Cons: they are combined with Berklee College of Music but act like its own entity.
