Pros: The family environment. We have all been through so much together.
Cons: Working 6pm to 6am.

Pay scale is horrible. Administration doesn’t see dispatchers as important and it shows. Morale is down. Only good thing is you get medical benefits and pension. Look elsewhere. It’s not worth the stress for what they offer.

Its not for everyone!
911 Dispatcher:
If you have the ability to deal with and handle extreme ongoing stress then take the time to research your local center. DO NOT apply or accept a position as a 911 dispatcher without having sat in and listened to at the very least one entire shift. There is a very large turnover rate and it is mostly due to those who simply did not realize who much stress is truly involved in this job.
