Software Developer in Ann Arbor:
Pros: Interesting, varied work; casual dress; flexible hours; good colleagues;
Cons: Bureaucracy; politics; chaotic, unstable reporting lines for my division; below-market pay
Software Developer in Ann Arbor:
Good benefits, generous vacation, but low annual monetary compensation. According to PayScale, I'm in the bottom 6 %ile, receiving $35k less than the median. The University, or at least the branch I'm under, seems to rely on people having other reasons besides monetary compensation for staying. My chain of command doesn't understand what I do, or its market value. Fortunately for them, I enjoy it.
Cool.
