University of Central Florida Reviews

What is it like working at University of Central Florida?

Senior Research Scientist (Unspecified Type) in Cocoa:
Pros: Improving sustainability of buildings and learning new ways to improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality
Cons: Treated like an outside consultant
Big, young school with growing pains and drama.
Assistant Professor, Postsecondary / Higher Education in Orlando:
Pros: This is a beautiful place to work, with a dynamic community, access to beaches, and reasonable cost of living. The weather is amazing.
Cons: The university is having trouble growing out of being a small teaching school, and into the R1 superpower it could be. Interaction with industry, especially, is poor, and even basic contracts are beyond the skill of the underpaid office of research. Unsurprisingly, administration is hostile and feudal, with resources scarce and contested. It is indeed all about who you know, with very little in terms of opportunity outside of playing that game.
Multimedia Specialist:
I am very satified working at UCF but I never get a raise when I asked. Even after 12 years. Culture is good, benefits is good, management is good. Its very easy to get along with everyone. And its easy to do my job. And I am very grateful I have a job work in the local government.
Steady Reliable work and income with good benefits.
Video Game Designer in Orlando:
Pros: Great collaboration with my teammates. Very tight nit
Cons: Limited opportunity to use tools and software that are industry standard. Hard to negotiate pay raises because of discretionary budgeting from the tippy top
