The responsibility and PE for a Staff Scientist is extremely different between Divisions.
Staff Scientist in San Antonio:
Pros: The freedom to work in a widely diverse range of technical areas.

Making advancements in research with a stagnent and antiquated infrastructure.
Linux System Administrator in San Antonio:
Pros: Friendly Atmosphere
Cons: bureaucracy & lack of diversity
Electrical Engineer in San Antonio:
Pros: the people and the work is interesting.

Ideal environment to take on new tasks.
Software Engineer in San Antonio:
Pros: Ability to provide direction to my work
Cons: Company policies can be strict
Principal Scientist in San Antonio:
The whole experience was bad. No matter how good you are and how well respected you are, otherwise, woman have virtually no voice at all at SwRI. They will steel IP, customers, and seedling efforts away from those who cultivated them. They have no problem giving those efforts to their inhouse favorites whether they are qualified to do the task or not. In addition, I witnessed them provide male speakers with the upmost respect while not giving a female enough respect so she can get through the even just the second slide of a presentation. Its that bad.
Non-Profit Research Company.
Lead Systems Analyst in Dover:

Research Engineer:
SwRI is an amazing place to work if you’re interested in being technically challenged. It is basically an extension of grad school. Great camaraderie, competitive salaries, good benefits and knowledgeable management.
