Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Reviews

What is it like working at Sam Houston State University (SHSU)?

Depending on your department you're either good or bad.
Network Analyst in Houston:
Pros: The networking opportunities
Cons: The politics and some racism gets swept under the rug
It Depends.
Inventory Specialist in Huntsville:
Pros: I like the work in inventory, and we are growing and adapting to the changes of SHSU. We are too small and have been quickly outpaced by growth and are struggling to keep up
Cons: I am not adequately titled for what I do, therefore my pay is quite low. We are also being reorganized and that causes confusion. There is too much work for my department to handle.
Good days and bad days.
Inventory Specialist in Huntsville:
Pros: The flexibility and the environment. There is a lot of room for ideas to be formulated
Cons: There is a lot of room for ideas to be formulated but no time to implement. All energy is into keeping the lights on
Inventory Specialist:
So far it has been a very great place to work. You can't beat the benefits, free health insurance, excellent vision and dental insurance, and pretty good compensation. You'll never get paid what you would in the private sector of course, but the retirement and benefits are totally worth it. The culture of the campus is amazing, and I have loved making all the connections I've made. Some departments utilize a matrix that plugs in all of your experience and spits out your wage. A lot of times there isn't any negotiating, but this isn't every department. It's very hard to get into the university from the outside.
