What is it like working at NorthShore University HealthSystem?
Stressful, frustrating, but fulfilling.
Charge Nurse (RN) in Chicago:
Pros: Teamwork and camaraderie amongst my immediate team have been present since the day I started 5 years ago. Employees frequently come and go, but new teammates are welcomed into a culture of "we are all in this together." I love knowing that when I walk into work I'm surrounded by not just coworkers but by genuine friends who are legitimately concerned with my well-being. Perhaps this experience is unique to my department. However, I believe that the social Identity and technical efficacy of most departments exist downstream of conscientious corporate structuring and leadership; or a lack thereof.
Cons: More so than other hospital systems in our area, there seems to be an omnipresent preoccupation with finances gently being propagandized from the C-suite down to clinical staff on the ground. We all understand that a bankrupt hospital that closes its doors, cannot help anybody; we understand that the bottom line matters. I know NorthShore is well run from a fiscal perspective and its annual financial reports support that conclusion. This makes it even more frustrating when requests for additional supplies, staff, or resources are constantly met with the answer, "it's not in the budget" and then some beautiful fountain is built for the patient lobby. Communication between layers of corporate insulation would be useful.
Great Work Not Prepared for Remote Work.

Pros: People are super nice.
Cons: Not setup well with business technology for remote work.
Overall underpaid, expected to not ask questions regarding pay, non-transparent regarding pay.
Physical Therapist (PT) in Skokie:
Pros: Easy, low expectations. Coast through work.
Cons: Extremely slow to make changes due to the corporate ladder, corporate culture is forced and non-genuine, pay is extremely stagnant.
Over worked and under paid.

Cons: being short handed and work schedule
Bioinformatician in Skokie:
Pros: making a positive impact in the life of patients
Cons: salary is below average compared to industry
Human Resources (HR) Coordinator:
Overworked and under paid. Middle management is the worst. Medical and dental benefits were decent but getting in to see a NS doctor was very hard and long wait times for certain specialists. Upper management didn’t care about the hourly employees.
