High School Teacher in Charlotte:
Starting out my first experience teaching in the US in Mecklenburg was at first overwhelming with the cultural elements, mostly exhibited in a different understanding of teacher/students roles and discipline. I had to adapt and dial back in order to build relationships with kids. One thing I greatly admired was the abundance of opportunities for prof development ( this changed as the years progressed), many of which were very helpful in developing classroom management and instructional strategies. On the flip side of that, I still believe I was paid unfairly when compared to my American counterparts who had masters degrees.
