Hy-Vee, Inc. Reviews

What is it like working at Hy-Vee, Inc.?

A lot of great people/customers that you get to communicate with everyday!
Sales Clerk/Cashier in Sioux Falls:
Pros: It helped me increase my communication skills and the other employees are jus so nice.
Cons: My pay would be the last thing, but I don’t have nothing else that I dislike about my current job.
Find work at a more specialized store instead.
Meat Clerk in Lenexa:
Pros: They have air conditioning and heating, so working under shelter is a bonus I suppose.
Cons: You are expected to bend you are expected to bend over for every asinine request a customer may have, regardless of how rude they may be to you. Additionally, the corporate nature of the work is extremely stifling, and there is no real way to move upward in the positions with any real sense of urgency.
They have a high turn over rate for a reason.
Stocker in Des Moines:
Pros: The customers and some of the non-tainted-by-corporate employees.
Cons: Management. They are beyond desperate and promote immature kids that know nothing of customers service or the workforce and expect them to make mature responsible decisions. Higher ups don't care if an underage girl is made to feel uncomfortable by comments made from a long time, older male employee. They care about profit and they're willing to crush everyone under them to rise up, only they're failing and just crashing faster.
Very stressful due to staffing.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT) in Marshalltown:
Pros: The customers and co workers
Cons: The workload being under staffed and under paid.
Senior Software Engineer in Des Moines:
From the top, Hy-Vee operates exactly like a cult. If you're there long enough you can become "staff", which then requires you to sit in weekly meetings (MASSIVE waste of time) and take diligent notes by hand (seriously) or you'll get your hand slapped. Becoming staff allows you to buy stock, but if you become too outspoken they can force you to sell your stock at any time. There is zero transparency when it comes to compensation, and compensation is severely lacking. Any attempt to bring any larger organizational concerns to management is met with gaslighting and hand waving. I've seen or heard of multiple people put in their 2 weeks and get fired on the spot. Run far, far away.
Treated like low level humans.
Personal Shopper in Yankton:
Pros: I like nothing about the job, the people I work with are great
Cons: Under appreciated, barely enough workers, everyday I have to stay late
Its okay.
Courtesy Clerk in Omaha:
Pros: It gives you something to do and keeps in a job while you look for your next one.
Cons: I don't feel appreciated and sen to be ignored sometimes
