Pros: Every day there is some new material to test. You are always doing something new and learning even if you are performing the same method.
Cons: Some opportunities for advancement and learning are available only if you work a certain shift or have some relationship with trainer. So you may be overlooked, as these decisions are made without asking what your own development goals are. Communication between more experienced scientists and newer ones can improve so that new guys don't run into the same mistakes. Often after getting a bad result, it comes up that oh we had this problem in the past.
