Pros: Flexibility and feel trusted
Cons: Rely too heavily on people who are paid the least and everything, such as promotions and wage increases, takes too much time. You also are not updated on status and things will fall to the wayside if you do not keep asking about them. It feels as if they drag their feet in the hopes that A.) You will give up and continue to work underpaid or B.) So they can drag out the period of paying you lower while they 'work on it'.
