The MITRE Corporation Reviews
What is it like working at The MITRE Corporation?
Principal Systems Engineer in Colorado Springs:
Important work for US Government. Enough flexibility that if you are unhappy with current work or with coworkers or customers you can pivot to other work. Better than being a regular government contractor.
Great place to start a career.
Cyber Security Engineer in Somerville:
Pros: MITRE provides independent areas to achieve and excel.
Cons: MITRE allows me to choose my own hours, work load, and sponsor interaction.
Lead Systems Engineer in Fairfax:
Good benefits overall. Excellent 401 matching although that's been reducing slowly over time. The matching follows a complicated formula separated into two categories, 401A and 403B (it's a not-for-profit FFRDC) so it's hard to say exactly what the match is; something like 8 - 9 %. Good, talented co-workers. Pay is not competitive with similar jobs at other FFRDC nor SETA companies. Pay raises do not keep up with inflation, around 1% annual raises although they will claim higher due to small (1 - 1.5%) bonuses but those bonuses do not count as "base pay", which your raise next year will be based on. They talk a good game about Service in the Public Interest but promotion is based on bringing in more business and working for the company's benefit, not the customer. You can get raves from the customer and MITRE doesn't really care, as long the customer is satisfied it's more about what you can do for the company.
Smart people who don't build things.
Lead Systems Engineer in Newport News:
Pros: Work life balance, smart people, treat employees well
Cons: We're not-for-profit consultants. We value influencing decisions of our sponsors over creating solutions to problems.
Great job!
Project Manager, (Unspecified Type / General) in Aberdeen:
Pros: Work-life balance, benefits, retirement matching, interesting projects to work.
Cons: Bureaucracy, some executives feel like they are out of touch.
Very physically draining and tiring after work over 9 hrs a day only getting $22 an hour to run around like a monkey for that rate is an absolute joke especially at 20+ Years of age with a baby on the way.
Forklift Driver in Sydney:
Pros: Working for the company, Earning a living and living a productive lifestyle.
Cons: The hourly rates 110%,
how they really don’t value the due care of the businesses staff members.
Great opportunity and culture.
Systems Analyst in McLean:
Pros: Collaborative with a focus on growth/learning
Cons: Site work makes it hard to connect back to MITRE
