Midland is a terrible market for IT.

Pros: Nothing, I have to work outside of Midland. I'm a system engineer, but Midland employers will barely hire me for L1 help desk due to discrimination and favoritism. I'm often told I'm over qualified for everyrhing. How is that fair to be out of work for an extended amount of time because you are too good at your job. smh
Cons: The mentioned above, and also, the closed mindedness of people in Midland. The companies here also have a lack of awareness of the importance of IT. They treat IT workers like idiots and undermine the work and skill that goes into it. Midland is Toxic.

Too many teams and legacy products.
Systems Engineer, IT in Kelowna:
Pros: Working for the mouse is fun to say. Lots of self managed time to get things done.
Cons: Supporting massive amounts of old products where the teams who built and own them were either shipped off to different orgs or the teams were let go, or left on their own (pre-covid) leaving critical things in the hands of people who don't truly know the tech

Less stressful compared to KL area.

Pros: Is good for person whom choosing time over money. After end of working hours, there is no need to worry much about traffic congestion on my way back home compared to KL area.
Cons: Nothing much. The places suits me well.
