June 2014
Great Atmosphere For Free Thinking And Original Design Thoughts.
Mechanical Engineer:
Pros: The people from the worker at my level and both below and above. Many of the industries best people and talent. The flex time is a God send to me because of my spouses medical needs.
Cons: Raises have been below the rise in inflation and are essentially a reduction in my wage and buying power year over year. The system is horrible. One would have to leave and come go to another company to get paid for their experience and time in position. The way the pay structure works, even with good reviews, the pay scale has been advancing to keep up with the rest of the world and it rises faster than the averages wages such that if I now have five more years experience, I am now paid less than somebody hired from the outside with the same experience as myself. This is the worst thing about Lockheed and my only major gripe. My salary was at an hourly rate of 1-1/4 for overtime when I was hired and unilaterally reduced by co. To first 5 hours unpaid and then only straight time after 45 hours worked.
May 2014
Bright Future In A High Performing Chemical Company.
Mechanical Engineer:
Pros: Time budgets are estimated for each project, and work is somewhat scheduled. I don't have to work 60+ hours per week like my past job at another company. At least my department has some way to determine how loaded the staff is.
Cons: We do some things in antiquated ways for a larger company. We are very much a budget-based company for each project and many times, others decide what the hours estimate will be. Normally, the estimates are too lean and they go over. We never really document and learn from our over-budget experiences in order to do a better estimate for future projects. We measure everything in crude ways just to cover our butts, as opposed capture the reasons to improve our process.
February 2014
Brilliant Learning Opportunity.
Mechanical Engineer:
Pros: There is so much experience to learn from. People are willing to share their experiences with you.
Cons: Salaries do not grow as quickly as they do in the private sector.
