Focus On Practical Experience.
Human Resources (HR) Manager:
I wish I had spent more time during grad school on gaining practical experience or doing internships. Students who did this had much bigger success in landing their first jobs, and knew how to apply the knowledge we gained on the job. I would also recommend establishing a mentoring relationship with a senior in the field to learn from an expert, HR theory is only a small part of what the job actually entails.
