Wish I Had Specialized Sooner.
Human Resources (HR) Generalist:
Learn all you can about employment law, payroll law, and leave law. Don't worry about administrative tasks like running payroll, entering data into the HRIS, etc.. Someone can always be trained to perform those functions. But as the Generalist, you better know WHY those functions must be done in a certain way and what are HR best practices in an industry that is always changing.
