If you are willing to put in the hours, producing physical machines that DO something is very rewarding. But, it is a business and there is always a schedule and a budget.

Pros: I am challenged at work daily.
Cons: It doesn't matter how hard you work. The weak employees are treated the same as the strong.

Agree the system requirements and develop your control algorithms based on the requirements. Always test your development models and ask for advice if uncertain in any way.

Pros: My schedule is usually flexible and I can work from home if I need to.
Cons: Sometimes I am required to spend several weeks or even months at a time far away from home working very long (12 hour) days, often 6 or 7 days a week until my part of the project is complete.
