Make it work.
Administrative Assistant:
We've all been an Admin for a less than stellar manager. They can be clueless or too outspoken, demeaning, rude, ignorant. Perhaps they push too much work off on you and then ask what you do all day.
Your direct report (manager) can make or break your job, happiness, desire to work, work/life balance and on and on. If you've just started out, and end up working for a manager that, for example, seems to have multiple personalities...just use the time to learn as much as you can and make it work for the time being. Know that this is a stepping stone to something bigger and better. If you work around other executives, they will take notice of your commitment, and probably empathize with you.
But one thing you NEVER, EVER want to do is burn your bridges. Trust me, from personal experience, it will come back to haunt you. Just keep peace, be respectful and after a while look for a better admin job. Never walk out, always give notice.

Administrative Assistant:
In the non-profit world I have found that pay/salary is usually a bit less than in the public sector. Also, some positions have benefits while others do not, so check out these details before applying for a job.

How to deal with different personalities.

Cons: Low salary.

A Million Personalities.
Administrative Assistant:
Pros: I love working with people who offer me knowledge I wouldn't otherwise know. Everyone from those I work with to the customers I talk to on the phone; it gives me great pleasure to help make their lives easier.
Cons: Having different leaders with different personalities make my job tricky because it's hard to please them all when working on projects. It take a lot of time and finess.
January 2015
I've learned a lot of new responsibilities.
Administrative Assistant:
Pros: I don't need constant supervision. I've learned to use QuickBooks for processing checks to vendors. I like setting up my own filing system and organization.
Cons: My co-workers. They are not professional people.
