Account Manager in Tampa:
Safer to pick a company that has a diversified client base. Same applies for account managers for 2 reasons. 1 you & employer don't have all eggs in 1 basket. Risk is too great if you nuanced client base suffers you will too. Best scenario is opposing market segments to stay busy with shifts in demand. 2 you are completely dependent & beholden to a single source which is never a position of strength from a negotiation stand point. Especially if clients know. They need to know you are not completely tied to them for success. Account managers negotiating is never ending. Time is usually 50/50 landing new business and retaining existing. Prompt response & service before clients ask is critical. They should feel like they are your only client. I personally try to be their advocate towards my employer. Clients follow me when I change companies 4 times over the years. Get them hooked on YOU. Not the company. My clients don't care what company the check goes to. As long as it's me they get.
