Victorian Order of Nurses Reviews
What is it like working at Victorian Order of Nurses?
Autonomy, Advocacy, Diversity and Challenge.
Registered Nurse (RN):
Pros: When you are with a client you can provide them with 100% of your attention. Health care teaching/promotion is a large aspect of community care and a personal favourite of mine. You can help clients make decisions about their health that will help improve their quality of life and help them navigate the healthcare system to get the care they need. It is challenging to find solutions to help keep clients in their homes while receiving quality care. Each client poses a unique set of circumstances beginning with the type of care they require making it interesting and challenging at every step. Being with clients in their homes gives a personal insight into their lives you would never see in a clinical setting.
Cons: Rushing. Often not enough time is given to perform a full assessment and spend the time the client needs. You may be someone's only point of contact all day or even for a week or more. I think getting more visits is sometimes valued over the quality of those visits. Working in homes where there are smokers or other health concerns such as bedbugs, cockroaches or just unclean living conditions. Poverty. Dealing with clients who cannot afford proper food or clothing and are unable to improve their loves because of the burden of their illness. Weather. Lack of air conditioning in some homes. Getting through snow or rain or just dealing with traffic at times. Going out at night in sketchy neighbourhoods. There is not enough compensation for using your own vehicle to drive from client to client and deal with some of these conditions.
