YMCA Reviews
What is it like working at YMCA?
Accounts Payable Analyst in Chula Vista:
The atmosphere has improved so much in the last two years, under new management. The new management has made so many improvements, our voices are now heard, instead of swept under the rug. Great team, lots of support from both supervisors and upper management.
Great place, low pay.
Personal Trainer in Lake Orion:
Pros: The community, the people, the facility
Cons: Base pay for what we do is low and hours range from 5am-10pm
YMCA lifeguarding review.
Lifeguard in Thomasville:
Cons: Patrons that don't understand the entire point of a lifeguard. Save lives. Some parents hate when you have to jump in to get their kid when he obviously needed help. They thought he/she could swim but in reality they are not Michael Phelps
Diversified facility operations and maintenance.
Maintenance Manager in Calgary:
Pros: the diversity of work and the people
Cons: disrespect of senior leader
Y.
Wellness Director in La Crosse:
Pros: Being able to make a difference in the things
I control. Members are great along with staff I supervisor. Great to be able to connect with so many different individuals.
Cons: Low pay not only for myself but also staff I supervisor. It sometimes seems like we have quite a few people in upper management but what they do doesn't seem to help the daily struggles that we have. The fact that if I have staff that are sick or don't show up I am the only one the is filling in unless I can get one of my other staff members to fill in. For the little pay we receive it would be nice if the organization has a whole had a better back up plan for all departments in the oh crap moments. I do not feel I am compensated enough to basically be on call the entire 103 hours we are open a week. The Y is great at providing more opportunities which unfortunately mean more work and more hours over the 40+ many full time directors already put in.
It is a good learning experience, and teaches me a lot about kids.
Instructor, Gymnastics in Franklin:
Pros: Being in the gym environment and seeing the kids progress
Cons: communication with other coaches and the employer
Always have something that needs reconciling.
Accounts Payable Manager in Nashville:
Pros: Co-workers & flexibility
Cons: Never being rewarded financially for doing a good job. If yearly raises are given, they are usually either 2.5% for "meeting expectations" or 3.5% for exceeding expectations. Everyone is on the same playing field no matter if you just show up for a paycheck or you are actually busting your butt.
